Hot-hot-hot/yuck-yuck-yuck/Goal-Goal-GOOOOOOOOOOOAL!

It's peaceful and quiet right now. The Meow is upstairs asleep in his little crib and I can hear the sounds machine through the baby monitor.

It's so incredibly calming I can feel my brain drifting away to faraway lands.

Yesterday we had our first true scorcher of the year: 95 degrees.

For some reason --maybe stubbornness-- the 95 degrees did not feel as horrible as 90 can feel in Hawaii, and believe me: this shit was HYOO-MID.

It could be that since the house never gets too horribly warm on account of the brick construction, it never gets to the point where I want to stab myself repeatedly with a spoon. Or worse.

______

The Meow hated the oat cereal.

He kept on making these funny, exhuberant little faces. He'd lick it from the spoon, deem it gross and inedible, and then pensively lick it off his lips while studying the texture.

Whenever he gets up from this nap, it's off to the store for rice cereal and bananas for us.

We'll see how the whole eating thing goes.

W00T! World Cup Year! *excited *excited*excited*

And apparently, I'd make it to the quarter-finals. Because I'm awesome:

QUARTER-FINALS
You achieved 71% Cup success!

The bitterness of disappointment. It’s no disgrace to be eliminated at this stage of the knock-out phase. You may have been the surprise package or the underdog that had already given the opposition a good run for their money and surprised many during the tournament. But in the end, you’ve pitted yourself against an opponent that is just too much stronger than you – maybe even the host nation itself? Or perhaps your team was also one of the favourites but was just stopped in its track by an unstoppable side that turned out to be the eventual winners of the tournament.

Both these cases applied to the England side, when they were knocked out by eventual winners Brazil in World Cup 2002 and eliminated by host nation Portugal in Euro 2004.

Anyway, you can bow out of the tournament with your heads held high. Grit, determination and finesse can only get you thus far. Maybe a bit more luck or tactical cunning would have seen you progress further. Take comfort though – many other great sides can’t clear this hurdle either......
